Your spouse has just come home with the posting message and your family is on the move… perhaps again.  Whether it is your first move or last move, are relocating from a long distance or short distance, keeping the lines of communication open with your children is essential. Some age groups tend to be easier to move girl movingthan others. Look below for ideas, suggestions and recommendations to help your relocation go as smoothly as possible for your family.

Meeting the needs of every age group

We understand that there is a lot to be done and a lot on your mind when relocating. From fixing up and selling the house to organizing and executing your move, children can get lost in the details.  It is important to keep your children on top of your list of priorities, as they may be struggling to come to terms with how their world is going to change.

We can’t stress enough the fact that the lines of communication need to be open with your children; whether they are babies, toddlers, preschoolers, school age or teenagers. Each age group has different needs that need to be met; the crucial element is to be there for them. We have listed a couple of websites that will be useful when preparing your children before, during and after moving day.

Okay now you need to tell the Children…

Maybe your children were expecting a posting message – and maybe they weren’t. How you deal with the moving news will affect how your children will deal with the moving process. Before you tell them, check out this information from Century 21.

Preparing your child for a moveHow moving can affect your child

Imagine a wonderfully rare and beautiful plant growing in your garden. Started from seed, and nurtured daily, the plant has gradually unfolded year after year into a thing of beauty. Now imagine ripping it out of the ground by the roots, plopping it into a pot of unprepared soil, and demanding it to grow and flourish as it had before. This is what we, as parents, expect from our children when we ask them to move without adequate preparation or without acknowledgement of the difficulty for the child. Changing schools, neighborhoods, cities, states, and sometimes, even countries is much more traumatic than many parents might realize. The shock value to a child's system is tremendous. http://www.susantaylorbrown.com/moving.html
