You are not alone because you want your children to be cared for in a safe, nurturing environment. To find that special "someone" that will give your children the care, understanding and nurturing that you want for them can be a very frustrating and lengthy process. Why not let the PMFRC Private Home Day Care (PHDC) program make the transition an easier one?

The Petawawa MFRC Private Home Day Care is a community based child care program designed to match suitable caregivers with children in need of daily care while their parents are at work.

  • This service is available to our military families and civilian families in the community.
  • We are licensed under the Day Nurseries Act of Ontario.  This licensing promotes the maintenance of specific health & safety standards in each child care setting.
  • We can arrange care for children six weeks through 12 years of age Monday through Friday for a maximum of 9 hours per day.
  • We require a minimum commitment of three half days per week or three categories of care per week - per child, before registering a family in our program.
  • We may be able to accommodate dual military couples with their varying childcare requirements if we are able to contract a caregiver willing to fulfill the military couple’s childcare needs.

Fees and subsidies

All families who are interested in applying for fee subsidy, are asked to complete a Fee Subsidy Application Form.  This form is available at: www.countyofrenfrew.on.ca.  There is a DISCOUNT available for families when there is more than one child per same category of care. Here is what you can find at parent fee schedule.

Specifics of child care arrangements

Our office is open from 8:00 - 4:00 Monday to Friday.  We are closed during all statutory holidays and for a period of one week over the Christmas holidays. We will attempt to arrange care to match the various unique needs of military personnel, however, we are limited by the availability of Private Home Caregivers.

Payment is due to the PMFRC by the 15th of each month for all your childcare services rendered in the preceding month. You will receive a monthly summary prior to the 15th of each month that outlines your previous month’s balance, any payments we have received and the current month charges. Payment is required for days when your child is absent due to illness.  Payment is also required for statutory holidays; however, you may take unlimited holidays without payment as long as your caregiver is given two-weeks notice.  Attendance records are kept by the caregiver and must be signed by you at the end of each month for verification purposes.

Spaces are available on a first come, first serve basis with priority given to our military members and civilian DND employees. Our Home Visitor selects potential caregivers suited to the individual needs of your family.  The length of time for this process to be completed varies, as it, depends on the individual needs of your family and the availability of a caregiver to meet those needs.

The Home Visitor gives you the contact information for two or more potential caregivers at which time an initial visit and interview is arranged by you to visit the caregivers’ homes. This gives you the opportunity to observe the child care setting and assess the various criteria you feel most important to the success of the arrangement.

Two-week notice is required upon terminating a child care arrangement or a payment of 2 weeks of fees in lieu of notice is retained by the Agency.  A $25.00 fee for N.S.F. cheques will be charged.

Your child will be discharged when:

  • you provide two weeks notice of termination
  • your account is four weeks in arrears
  • a suitable caregiving arrangement is not found
  • the private home day care experience is not suitable for your child
