First and foremost we want to thank you for showing interest in joining our Private Home Day Care (PDCH) team. This is an alternative for families in our community who would prefer their children to spend their days in a home care environment.
Letting us know you are interested in our Private Home Day Care program will start the process for joining our service. You will receive an application form as well and an information package explaining the service and the role you would have in the program.
PLEASE REMEMBER: This is merely the first step in our admission process. We want to ensure we are right for you and you are a good fit for us. There is further criteria you must meet before the process is complete.

If a child is ill or is simply taking the day off our providers are still paid, as you had the SPACE available for the child, but if you have received two-weeks notice that the child will not be coming then you will not be paid.
- Caregiver backup-alternate care
- If for some reason the caregiver is unable to provide care due to illness or an appointment she is responsible for providing her parents with the name of an approved alternate caregiver, when possible. If no one is available please contact the PHDC office.
- Vacation
- We need a two-week notice by both caregivers and parents for any time off. Caregivers who have completed the admission process are contacted and asked if they are willing to provide backup care to cover other caregiver’s vacation periods.
- Support
- We act as a resource for caregivers through our home visits, open communication and mediation, and placement arrangement. If a parent or caregiver is having difficulty in any area concerning the childcare arrangement, a home visitor or other agency employee will intervene and assist. Each caregiver has an assigned Home Visitor who will visit monthly and carry out quarterly safety and health inspections. During these visits, new activity ideas may also be discussed.
- Special Services
- Equipment borrowing privileges
- Special occasion arts and crafts packages
- Various workshops and learning opportunities such as First-Aid training

- Status
- Caregivers are not considered employees at the PMFRC, but are independent contractors and therefore are not required to adhere to a specific program of activities with the children in their care. There are, however, guidelines to follow and ideas provided by the PMFRC. For further information refer to the Petawawa Military Resource Centre Private Home Day Care Policy and Procedures. For income tax purposes you are a self-employed small business, and therefore entitled to numerous deductions.
