Before Making Your Decision:

Types of Child care

  • childrenUnlicensed in Ontario: Caregivers can look after up to five unrelated children under the age of 10 without needing a licence. View Unlicensed Care Options & Resources ...
  • Licensed Child Care Programs: Caregivers have to meet and maintain specific provincial standards. These standards are set out in the Day Nurseries Act . The standards help to make sure that the health, safety, and developmental needs of the children are being met. Licences have to be renewed at least every year. View Licensed Care Options & Resources ...
  • Emergency Child Care (ECC): A supplemental program available to military families to help buffer the child care stresses that uniquely face military families. View Emergency Child Care Options & Resources ...
  • Respite Care: If your situation doesn’t fall into our "Emergency Child Care" guidelines, please know that we offer a Respite Care Service which allows you to take a break from your children in certain situations. Respite can be defined as a brief interval of rest, which you may need if your spouse has been deployed for over 30 consecutive days and you are feeling overwhelmed. Military families may have access to up to 72 hours of child care. The care does not need to be consecutive. Our Emergency Child Care Coordinator will help you develop a plan that works for your family during this time of respite. Please remember that it is important that you take the time to complete an Emergency Childcare Plan.  It is imperative that you are prepared for "what if" scenarios.
