Your spouse is deployed - on course or overseas - and your regular caregiver is unavailable to watch your children due to illness or a family emergency.  What do you do? Look to our Emergency Child Care Service (ECC). Our goal is to support you in finding affordable, accessible and quality child care in times of deployment and/or emergency situations.

Don’t have your emergency Child Care Plan yet? Don’t worry. Scroll to the bottom of the page to download your Emergency Planning kit.

What is Emergency Child Care?

The emergency child care service is there to help you when your regular child care plan has fallen through. It is designed to help you on a short-term basis to bridge the gap between no child care provider and having a regular child care provider. This service is for our military families to use on a short-term basis. There are guidelines and limitations. Please do not hesitate to contact us for more information.

Circumstances that constitute an emergency
  • when a CF member is away on duty and the spouse/caregiver is unavailable due to illness
  • when CF member is away on duty and the spouse/caregiver is unavailable due to a family emergency
  • when the CF member is required to report for duty on short notice and the spouse/caregiver is unavailable
  • when a single parent or both parents are CF members and CF duty requirements are such that the regular childcare provider is unavailable
  • when a child is ill and the parent is unable to access their usual child care arrangement at a time when the CF member's presence at work is critical to the militarily operation.
  • when other circumstances not covered above exist and emergency childcare is deemed necessary, the PMFRC may contact DMFS for approval (care is not guaranteed in this circumstance)

While the intent of the Emergency Childcare Service Policy (including the funding available to assist with providing emergency childcare) is to assist CF members and their families to the greatest extent possible, there are limitations, which must be understood by all concerned in the allocation of funding.
